In the modern spirit of rebooting a long-defunct show, the title character and his friends Heffer, Filburt and lovably dim dog Spunky returned for a revival special in 2019 called Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling. Rocko's Modern Life also dealt with more adult issues and themes, including immigration and the stresses of working life. Rocko's Modern Life is one of those kid shows that reveled in its somewhat ugly art style and being as gross as possible. The show follows the title character, an Australian wallaby adjusting to life in the U.S., with the series twisting regular grown-up problems and blowing them up to nightmarish proportions. While Rocko's Modern Life wouldn't be as acclaimed as the likes of SpongeBob Squarepants or Hey Arnold!, it still received a well-deserved cult following. Children in the 1990s were spoilt for choice when it came to great animated shows on Nickelodeon.
